i just had this problem. MS has a KB on it that mentions that your TMP
directory is misdirected in your profile. bogus answer. what worked for me
was emptying my cached pages. apparantly, the directory was full, and when
you view source, it can't put the temp file in that directory.

Subject: Cannot view source in IE

I am no longer able to View Source in IE 5.5, whether from the menu or right
click. This is only a problem on pages from a webserver - both Internet and
my local machine webserver. I can open the script debugger/Visual Studio and
can view source on local HTML files accessed by drive letter.

I'm running IE 5.5, SP1

I don't know when this started but it makes it difficult to develop without
access to the generated HTML source. I've searched MS knowledge base and
can't find any reference to this problem. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris
