I gotta agree. It's silly to make an example of him like this, but at the
same time he was way in the wrong. Hopefully the school learned a lesson
about locking down the workstations so that this doesn't happen again.
I feel for the guy, he's definitely in a world of hurt, seemingly to server
as an example to the rest of us, but, well.. damn! I'm glad I'm not him :-)

My vote is, he broke the law. He broke school policies. He should be
punished. But ... $450,000? 15 years in jail? That's a bit much.
This like stealing pens and paper from work. It's wrong. You know it's
wrong. A lot of people do it. Hardly anybody ever gets caught. And when they
are, they're rarely fired (though it is a fire able offense), but often
disciplined.
