In general though I don't blame them for using armour that sort of look like
the real thing but isn't. Leather and bronze are very heavy. From my own
experience in the SCA, I wouldn't want to wear similar armour that the
Greeks wore for more than a few minutes. I'd be out of it very quickly from
heat exhaustion.
As for the armour, it was very expensive. Except for Sparta, which had the
only full time professional army in the period of the city states etc., most
ancient Greek city states used the equivalent of militias. Generally only
the very rich or the nobility could afford the full armour we think of as
Greek. At most the typical hoplite etc probably only had a shield covered in
bull's hide and a leather jack and helm.
