When I was a grad student and went to scientific conferences I used to hand
out special cards to the animal right protesters. The cards read "I am a
supporter of animal rights. If I am incapacitated and cannot speak for
myself, I do not want any medical procedure performed on me that was based
on the results of medical research that used animal subjects." It got some
animal rights supporters to think about it, and a lot more very pissed off.
I used to go to animal rights meetings just to piss off the animal rights
supporters. Hey you had to have a hobby.
I am alive because of using animals as experimental subjects. My diabetes
may be cured one day - strictly as a result of animals as experimental
subjects. Of course I'm biased on this topic.
