> Do you wish you had one over the other?
I switched to a Laptop earlier this year - mainly because I'm in a
situation where sometimes I'm at home, sometimes I'm at ITT, sometimes
I'm upstairs in the "office" and sometimes I'm downstairs with the
wife.
My laptop is a really good machine - 2.66 GHz P4 with 512 meg of ram.
When I made the change I consolidated a database machine (running SQL
2000 and MySQL) a web machine (running CFMX, PHP and Perl) and my
development box (what I was actually using to edit files) all into the
one machine. Granted, by doing that I've loaded a lot more onto one
machine than most sane people would. However, it's really nice now
that I'm teaching a database class that I can fire up the laptop in
class and show my students real life uses of SQL Server.
I think each environment is different. My constant moving makes the
laptop a huge plus - but it's not a necessity. Before I got it I was
running a desktop and had remoting capabilities to connect in from
various locations.
