Air filters are usually pretty easy. I got a Volkswagen Rabbit through
emissions testing for under $5 once by changing an air filter. (It
flunked the first time.)

I have never tried an oil filter as it requires a special tool and the
consequences in case I mess up are pretty high.

Have done wonders for engine performance by replacing spark plugs and
spark plug wires though, on a couple of different cars. Also fixed
horn and windshield wiper problems by tracing wires and/or replacing
fuses.

Does anyone do their own maintenance on their car?

I just saved $154.76 cents by ordering an air filter and cabin air filter
from a MazdaStuff.com; the dealership wanted $80 a piece for both to install
them... took me 5 minutes tops. WTF!!!

How about oil and tranny fluid.. anyone change their own?
