If that's the agreement you made then then that's that (I personally would
never agree to such a clause as somebody hiring however but I have seen
agreements like this).
If it's not in the contract then it's simply not covered and anything goes.
I personally used to just give a "perpetual, non-exclusive license to all
materials" - now I just use the BSD license. That way I still own the code
(and can use it in other things) but they can do whatever they want with it.
I've had many contractees try to pawn off "exclusive" licenses on me (all
code produced is owned exclusively by those paying for the work) but I
rarely take those jobs.
