I always like to ask potention clients if they have a budget.

What I'm afraid more than anything is, that if I charge too much, the client
will backoff.  What do I say then?!! Heh

Personally what I would say depends on:

A: How important is that $400 to me right now, could I earn more with the
time I will spend doing the work for this $400.

B: Are they other factors that affect the price, doing a favor for a friend,
or getting a foot in some door for example.

C: Is the job worth it.  Will I ultimately spend way too much time and
effort and frustration for very little return!
