took daughter to all you can eat buffet then picked son up and went to
a hill north of town. Great view of fireworks in Albuquerque, Rio
Rancho and Sandia Pueblo all at the same time. Wound up next to some
horses, which my daughter naturally had to pet... they turned out to
be police horses who were being acclimated to fireworks so they could
be used at the balloon fiesta, which I thought was interesting...
Managed to sneak home along the north edge of town with only minimal
traffic madness. Got hung up at one light, that's all :)

We drove to Lake Lanier (little less than hour away) arriving at 3:30 pm
on the 4th. We figured we would not have a chance at a picnic table at
our favorite picnic place, Mary Alice Park, so we brought chairs and a
table.

But lo and behold - the best table on the little peninsula bit that
sticks out into the lake was available! SCORE! We've no idea why - other
than whomever was there decided to leave early.

So we sat around and played a game of UNO - had some snacks, sandwhiches
and drinks, then went for a dip in the lake. It decided to thunderstorm
and POUR down rain whilst we swam which was really cool. We were in the
water through the whole thing - yeah crazy, but what the hell. We were
treated to a beautiful rainbow which also doubled! Fabulous. It only
lasted about 15 minutes in all.

Since our friend Adam didn't go in ... He put all our stuff safely under
the table so it wouldn't get soaked.

Then we got out played more UNO and left about 9:15 to get a better
vantage point to see all the Lake Lanier fireworks.

A fabulous 4th of July!

Today we are taking it easy - swimming in the pool, answering some
emails, and eating an enormous Vodka Watermelon that has been sitting
for a couple of days ... :D

Cheers,
Erika
