I remember someone recently mentioning the folks in some state
suddenly realizing that they had gay marriage and some sort of state
health-care thing (I'm being very technical here :) at the same time
and mostly being concerned that their hospitals would be overrun with
aids cases soaking up the available funds. Which -- although I don't
see it -- is a pragmatic fear rather than a religious one.
