Well, the fact that the contract is not gauranteed helps. This isn't an Albert Belle type situation, where he retired one year into a long contract, and the team (the Orioles i think) were stuck paying 10+ million dollars a year to a player who was sunning himself on a beach somewhere.

I root for a team who can't stop the run, so the fewer Ricky Williams' in the league, the better....

I dunno...I was reading an article online yesterday about this and it had
quotes from Ricky like, "I was hanging out on the beach with Bob Marley's
kids...looking at how happy they all were..living in little shacks on the
  beach..."

...and I thought, "fine.  then give up your big football salary so you can
live in a shack on the beach."   And I realized...that's exactly what he
did.  So I think good for him.  Yeah, I feel bad for the dolphins giving up
the picks they did...and yeah, his timing in announcing this could have been
better...but if his heart isn't in the game, wouldn't he be doing Miami more
of a disservice by continuing to play even though he really doesn't want to?
Don't you think his production would be affected by that?  Better to let
Miami try and grab somebody who does want to play the game.
