What if the storeowner is, for example, a Buddhist?  Should he still
have rules imposed on him that are directly derived from a religion he
does not believe in?

What if the majority of people on this list decided that no one is
allowed to use a palidrome for a handle?  How would you feel?

I'm not necessarily saying blue laws are inherently bad.  If they serve
a purpose other than reinforcing religious leanings, then fine.  If it
really is an issue of providing law enforcement without trampling on the
religious rights of the police force, then that's okay.  I'm just saying
that restricting rights just because you don't agree with them is not OK.
