Raymond,
How's it going?
Anyway, I'm not exactly sure why. Perhaps part of it is that there is not
the extremes of rich and poor that there are in the US. There are **ZERO**
homeless people in Haifa, and maybe one that I saw in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem
combined during my 2 1/2 years. Therefore, perhaps no one feels desperate
enough...
or perhaps, it is because the Israelis have their minds on other things...
or perhaps, those people who would commit such crimes just join the army
instead....
or perhaps, it is as Kevin mentioned: that there are so many armed police
around and it discourages such violence....
or perhaps, it is because they are an overall good people...
Jews have suffered, been tortured and killed in their past and perhaps
because of that, it is unimaginable to them to inflict the same kind of
violence on themselves again....
Or maybe it is a little bit of all of those things.
I also do not really know what the punishment is for such crimes; if it is
harsh, that could definitely be a factor as well.
Regards,
km
