"Under God" was added to the pledge in 1954.

"In God we Trust" was added to currency for the first time in 1908 but
wasn't added to paper money until the 1950's.

I believe that the phrase "under god" was a relatively late addition ~1950
to
the pledge.  However the pledge is not law.
