Canada - I'm thinking of the Hutterites and Doukhabours. While the
second group is dying out and slowly being absorbed into mainstream
BC, the Hutterites are growing and prospering.
I think that this effort by those Islamicists is a reation to living
in a more open and tolerant society. As the second and third
generations are not following their elders' dictates regarding how
they should live their lives, the reaction of those elders is to
emulate the oppressive society of their origin. Those Islamic groups
who've been in Canada longer (Pakistanis for instance) are doing very
well and following a more tolerant brand of Islam.
