It affects my life when I find out that the police department finds it
necessary to conduct surveillance of a peaceful demonstration in which
I and my children are participating.

Does that answer your question?

How does that have anything to do with a cyber terrorrist with obvious
ties to Al Qaeda, being investigated for every possible attack that
could be perpetrated using his distinct skill set???!!

When gay marriages were being discussed, i often heard people say
"hey, it has no affect on my life, so i dont care". Well, fellow law
abiding Americans, how does the Patriot Act affect your every day
lives?????

I'm not defending the Patriot Act mind you....just pointing out the
inconsistency in the argument.

  Right.

  So...

  Can I see your papers?
Stand over there and be frisked.

Your neighbour has said that he heard you talking in Arabic last night.
Could you come with us please?

Under the Patriot Act we have the power to hold you
indefinitely...no you cannot
  call a lawyer.
No you cannot tell your wife or family where you are.
  Please come with us.
