I read or heard something recently about how the proliferation of media- cable/satellite channels, magazines, online media- was creating much more of a niche market for the left and right. A great example is how Fox News was built by Murdoch to combat what he saw as Ted Turner's liberal voice on CNN. Don't forget that Fox is a global brand, just like CNN.

Still, the range of opinions is very small in mainstream media. It's not like we have mainstream television news in the U.S. talking about the glory of the workers' paradise in Cuba. On the left you have people like Bill Mahr and on the right you have people like Joe Scarborough, then you add someone with an opposing view to create dramatic tension and get ratings, which is what media is really all about anyway.

Magazines offer more of an outlet for clearly liberal or conservative thought. On the left, you have Mother Jones and The Nation, on the right you have The National Review and the American Spectator.
