We've pretty much decided that if our tax return is at all large (and it
usually is) then I'll be buying a new system in May.
It feels like a long time but I'm hoping things settle down by then. Any
issues with PCI Express should be shaken out and I'm really hoping the
prices on some of the dual-dvi cards come down a bit (and now that there's
competition in that space they should).
I'm really hoping that somebody comes out with a nice dual CPU workstation
board with consumer features (many USB ports, firewire, IDE RAID, etc).
There hasn't been a decent one since the VP6 and I long for the days of
dual-cpu response. My current system may be faster (an overclocked 3.2Ghz
P4 running at 3.5) but my old dual PIII was always there when I wanted it.
If I wanted to open Outlook at the same time I was compressing video - fine,
bang, it opened instantly. With a single CPU system it still lags when
busy. Hyperthreading definitely helps, but it's just not the same.

Subject: Dual DVI on x800xt
Thanks to Asus, I may have a choice between ATI and NVIDIA for my next
card. I'm holding out to see the scores of HL2 and a few more games.
I've been leaning strongly towards the NVIDIA 6800Ultra, but I really
like the the cooler, quieter ATI approach.
