a PC controller based on the first wireless design called the "Cordless
rumble pad" (same as the first cordless PS2 controller, but six buttons
Street Fighter style rather than four PS2 style).
The new wireless PC controller (aptly named the "Cordless Rumblepad 2")
looks to be exactly the same as the new PS wireless controller with the only
difference being a red rather than blue logo plate.
I'm a keyboard/mouse PC gamer, but I wouldn't be surprised to find the two
controllers identical needing only different receivers. I wonder if I could
order just a replacement receiver.? They might use different frequencies
however.
Oddly enough although the controllers seem identical and both take two AA's
the PS2 controller claims a 50 hour battery life while the PC controller
claims 100 hours. perhaps their assuming that PC games don't take advantage
of rumble as often?
I'm with you on the wireless. But I see no need for wired power either.
;^) There are a few technologies that could be developed to serve power
over the air. better yet all devices should include their own 100-year-life
nuclear battery packs. If Cheney wants to build more nuclear power plants
let him build one the size of a floppy drive to power my PC maintenance-free
for 1000 years!
Mwhuuhahahahhahah!

Subject: RE: The new Logitech PS2 Wireless Action Controller...
Sounds like they are like the Logitech Wingman Extreme wireless
controllers for the PC.
I think those are the best controllers I've used in ages for the PC,
feels excellent and they're very responsive.
I've never noticed any of the problems you described with these new PS2
versions, except they are heavy and take 4AA batteries :)
Life is about 50 hours, or for me a month or two given how much I
do/don't use them.
I'm still longing for the day when everything in the machine is
wireless. Wireless monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse.
The only cords would be for power.
