Baby monitor helps police nab thieves

WINNIPEG - A Winnipeg family's inventive approach to home security has
helped police capture a pair of bandits.

The family left a baby monitor in the garage as a security measure.

Early Sunday morning, they heard some noise coming through the
monitor. When the homeowners investigated, they found a man and a
woman in the process of removing lawn equipment.

The thieves ran away, but police found them hiding in a nearby backyard.

"This is the first time I'm aware of somebody who was arrested as a
result of people using a baby monitor," says Const. Bob Johnson. "Some
friends made use of one a couple of years ago, and I thought it was
quite unique on their part, but I guess they're not the only ones who
came up with the idea."

Police say some camping equipment had been taken from another garage
nearby, as well.

A 36-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested.
