That's all that I said when I finished the main quest in Morrowind.
Notice I didn't say finished morrowind, but just hte main quest. Simply
because there are SOOO many subquests and your character never reaches a
'maximum' level.
I was also extremly impressed by the several advancements that general
users have made in the game. People have taken each texture in the game
and changed it, using higher resolution images so that now whereas the
world looked fairly bland and washed out before, it is bursting with
color! Leaves and debris on the ground..sand that looks like real sand!
Of course, in the two years since the game was created most midrange
computers can handle these higher resolution textures with ease and
still maintain a good framerate. They have also gone through the game
and changed the faces of over 300 NPC characters! Yes! People went and
added beautiful, realistic faces to all the shopkeepers, guardsmen,
major and minor plot characters...1 in every 5 NPCs has a brand new
face!
THey've gone and changed the body geometries so they are more in keeping
with the complexity that we get now in PC Games....they went ahead and
used new 'heads' on the Player character models, that boast a lower
polygon count, but because of the better texturing seem to have way more
detail! It is amazing how you boost the longevity of a game by making it
open and easy to modify! It probably takes developers longer to produce
commercial level tools for editing stuff in the game, and to provide
community support after it is released, but darn it's obviously worth
it! :-)
With all the Half Life 2s, Doom IIIs, Rome:TOTAL WAR, Dragon Lords..you
name it with fancy DX9 stuff, I played Morrowind and THOROUGHLY enjoyed
it, AND found it beautiful! I never felt myself thinking, well I'm
playing this because of the game, not necessarily the graphics. It holds
its own!
I have now moved onto the First Expansion, Tribunal, and I have the
second and final expansion Blood Moon to play after as well.
If you like RPGs, you CANNOT go wrong with Morrowind, the hype was over
the top when this came out, but after giving the game a chance, it lives
up to it!
Also, don't bother with the Xbox version unless you do not have a PC.
The Xbox version doesn't have all these great modifications (though it
is the same game as Morrowind).
The PC version also alllowed me to 'cheat' and so enjoy the game better.
What turned me off initially was the inordinate periods it took
travelling from place to place, but I discovered a Console command that
would take you immediately to any city, and then you could proceed from
there. So with that impediment to enjoyment gone, I started experiencing
the game..and it was worth it. THis game is so open, that you can play
it basically any way you want to :-)
Great stuff! Highly Recommended.
