Unless you are living in an Islamic republic such as Iran, you are a target of these lunatics. It's only a matter of priority. This is exactly what Bush has been saying. Al Qaeda and other Islamic militant organizations, backed by Wahabbi religious extremism, are waging a war across the entire planet with a goal of establishing an Islamic empire that covers as much territory as possible.
The U.S. did not start this war. Islamo-fascists started this war. It is not about fighting U.S. imperialism in the Middle East. It is not about defending the Palestinians against Israeli agrression. It is about a small group of people attempting to impose their vision of society on others by force of arms and the intimidation tactics of terror. If you are not one of the terrorists, if you have not agreed to live according to their rules, you are their enemy. Make no mistake. That is why there can be no quarter in this war, no bargain to strike. The Islamo-fascist movement must be destroyed, root and branch.
