I've bought it when it made sense - dollar for item purchased on
something I'm likely to break. If it did not make sense, then no, I told
them "No, thank you but I DON'T want it, thank you very much, and I
would appreciate it if you didn't keep shoving it down my throat. Thank
you." Smile sweetly and continue to pay for purchase.

Ask Phil. I'm a hardass right back to salespeople. I hate most
salespeople - so it's easy for me to be a hardass. :)

Especially if they aren't nice and smile and greet me. I'll ask them "I
guess you are having a bad day?" and they'll say "No, why?" and I'll say
"Because you look very grumpy. Why don't you smile more?"

Yeah - I have a real thing against grumpy, pushy, nasty salespeople ...
But I guess that's another topic ...
