The last time I was placed in a high stress life/death situation (an 
attempted rape) I beat the little sh*t severely with a tire tool, so I 
think I know what I would do.

Training helps, at least to control the fear response.  I've never really 
been very timid or fearful, in fact, sometimes I'm almost recklessly bold 
when confronted with danger.  But I know a lot of people are more likely to 
respond to something like this with fear.
