That's an interesting proposition...

To extend the idea...
What if that 'magic box' as you refer to it were actually a computer, and to
follow the logic of Ray Kurtweil's 'Age of Spiritual Machines' it's 40 years
into the future and all of a sudden, we find ourselves without body and
physical needs. Then, the magic box becomes us, and we no longer need
anything physical. Then, all we do all day is seek new knowledge and
understanding of the universe because the former needs (food, water sex etc)
are simply no longer relevant... All that's left is knowledge.
