1. Are you going to be carrying it with you?
2. If so, how much?
3. Is it a desktop replacement?
4. What would you do with it?
5. How much do you want to spend?
You've answered 3 and 4 such that you probably don't need a
powerhouse. So it's between portability and price now. I've used the
Latitude D600 which is the business version of the Inspiron 600m. I
like it a lot. It's on the borderline of too heavy to carry around a
lot though.
The 700m is brand new. The reviews I've read seem to like it, but I'm
not sure if I personally am that enamored with the wide screen format
on laptops. It looks like a really nice system though.
Do some quick reading on customer satisfaction differences between the
Latitude and Inspiron lines. The Inspiron is their consumer line and
tends to use less expensive parts. The Latitude is their business line
and uses a more stable inventory of parts that have supposedly been
tested more. But the parts could likely be the exact same parts that
proved themselves stable in the consumer model.
Also, the tech support for Dell consumer products is outsourced to
India, but after an outcry from the business sector the phone support
for the business models was brought back to the U.S.
