That's good and bad.  Good, in that it's looking like digital satellite
radio is the final frontier of radio, and he can have his show as
uncensored as he wants, which is good.  However, if this starts a major
push to satellite radio, you might see small local stations evaporate.

I worked for a very small NPR affiliate in college - had a couple of
regular classical/jazz shows and I ran the boards during the evening NPR
broadcasts and Saturday morning shows (Car Talk, etc.).  I loved talking
to people who knew me from the radio, reading local news and weather,
that sort of thing.  From that perspective, it really gave me a
connection to the community.

I live outside Chicago now, and my favorite radio station (when I can
get it) is WONC out of North Central College in Naperville.  It's not
slick, the sound isn't perfect, but it's primarily students on the air,
and you can tell they love doing it.  The music's fun and pretty
dynamic, the DJ's are knowledgable, and it's a lot of fun.
