The DC area is not just the District,  its Northern Virginia, Maryland and
even parts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Speaking from the Maryland Side, the MARC train comes in from both Northern
Maryland and West Virginia so if you really want rural and dont mind a
longer commute via train into DC proper, it is doable (note I said doable
not necessarily something you would want to do).

DC schools suck, however areas in both NoVa (Northern Virginia) and Maryland
have decent school systems (Montgomery County in MD, Falls Church and Loudon
County in Va).

Cost of living is lower than Los Angeles and New York, but higher than other
areas of the country.

DC has the 10th worse traffic in the nation. I don't find it that horrible,
but then again I am originally from Los Angeles which has the 1st worst
traffic in the country, and I mostly telecommute (although my office is
about 15 minutes away).

There are lots of CF jobs in DC, especially if you have clearance or are
clearable.

Subject: DC Area

Hi All,

I have a couple of questions about the DC area.

In the past two days I've had phone calls from recruiters inquiring as to my
interest in taking positions in the DC area. Prior to this my wife and I had
already decided that are moving out the New England area, though DC wasn't
in the direction we had intended to move (much further North).

Can some of you from DC tell me a bit about the area? How does the cost of
living rank with New England? I've heard the horror of the traffic problems
but are they worse then Boston? Is it possible to work in the city and
commute from a more rural area? How does the school system rank nationwide?

Thanks,
Duane
