After Saddam's swift defeat in 1991, when the popular uprisings in Iraq failed to unseat him as we'd hoped, it should have been readily apparent that the populace was not ready to take the necessary steps to enact and execute a democratic republic. Doesn't mean they didn't WANT to....just that they weren't capable yet.
This administrations biggest miscalculation, in my opinion, was that one person, Saddam Hussein, was the sole road block to transitioning an entire country from a dictatorship to a democracy. It is this miscalculation that is directly responsible for the current problems. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gruss Gott" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Community" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 10:45 AM Subject: Re: Castro Takes A Digger > > Brian wrote: > > So...Fidel, thanks for the effort, but it's time for this country to take > > the next step..... > > Well said.
