The future of health care in the US will most likely be "consumer
driven health care' or CDHC. Basically it uses market incentives and
consumer responsibility to manage costs.

The often provided example is how cosmetic surgery costs have
increased 19% since 1998, which is near inflation, while managed care
health costs have increased at 48%. This is because consumers shop
for doctors with cosmetic surgery and those that provide a quality
product for a fair price are most successful.

The CDHC executive summary is that it works by allowing consumers to
create health savings accounts (HSAs) and then choosing their own high
deductible insurers and doctors. Because consumers will have to make
health choices with their own money they'll make informed choices.
Because insurers and doctors will be competing for each HSA dollar,
they'll keep costs low.

CDHC was/is architected by:

Regina E. Herzlinger is the Nancy R. McPherson Professor of Business
Administration Chair at the Harvard Business School. She was the first
woman to be tenured and chaired at Harvard Business School and the
first to serve on a number of corporate boards. She is widely
recognized for her innovative research in health care, including her
early predictions of the unravelling of managed care and the rise of
consumer-driven health care and health care focused factories, two
terms that she coined.

There are numerous companies springing up around the country that
provide CDHC health plans. Watch for IPOs! Great investment
opportunities.
