Unless he felt that the lie was more important than his personal honor and reputation.
I think he is enough of a Patriot (in all the good meanings of that word) to give his
personal honor up for the cause, just as he would his life.

I think this summer he put his personal honor in the closet and said what the Bush
administration told him to, on the grounds that America could not afford dissent at
this crucial time in the Iraq conflict.

Meaning I think he parroted many lines that he did not believe in.

I do think, though, that his speeches to the UN before Iraq were believed.

I think John McCain did much the same over the course of the summer.

My personal belief (with no proof to back it up) is that both Powell and McCain were
briefed on something that shook them to their socks, and convinced them that shilling
for Bush was the best thing for America. I hope someday we find out what that was.

But Powell DIDN'T want war.

So....you think he compromised his principles, his beliefs, his political
future, his ethics, etc.....and allowed himself to testify to an analysis
that he didn't believe in, or knew to be false?

I just can't imagine that to be true. When Powell speaks, I think he's
speaking the truth as he sees it. Maybe I've been duped, but I just don't
think he'd deceive intentionally.
