my $0.02... don't forget that the slowest link in most of our machines today are the hard-drives, especially if you don't have a lot of RAM and your OS has to do a lot of page-file swapping. Do yourself a favor and buy a FAST hard-drive, something like a Western Digital Raptor. 10k rpm, S-ATA, and a MTBF of a million hours!... these drives are more value dollar for dollar than SCSI, and your system will be noticeably faster.
For the record, in February, I built a system with an Abit KV8-MAX3, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB of Mushkin Hi-Perf CAS:2-2-2 RAM, and a 74GB Raptor running 32-bit WinXP Pro... this system is blazing fast and, I kid you not, it has NEVER crashed, not once, running 24x7 (with a reboot every two weeks or so for some software upgrade or another)... never seen a blue-screen-of-death... flawless. I am very happy with it and I can't wait to install the 64-bit version of WinXP (once I feel it has matured a bit). -Dave ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Special thanks to the CF Community Suite Gold Sponsor - CFHosting.net http://www.cfhosting.net Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:137921 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
