There are no compatibility issues.

The Athlon 64 line of processors are the fastest processors out there, nothing
Intel makes can come close to the top Athlon 64s and
FX chips.
And the Athlon 64s are cheaper than comparably performing Intel processors.

There is no disadvantage to the Athlon 64 processors.
You would get an enormous boost from the increased processor speeds in ALL
applications, not just Half Life 2.

CPU tests showing Pentiums bringing up the rear in CPU testing:
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041019/athlon64_4000-09.html#directx_9

"Previously, the latest Pentium 4 processors were able to outperform AMD's CPUs
when it came to encoding tasks, which was
practically the only benchmark for which the Pentium bested the Athlon64
according to our previous tests.

Now, we see that the new FX-55 at 2.6 GHz is able to close most of the
remaining gaps in the Pentium 4's performance lead for
MPEG-2, MPEG-4 or MP3 encoding as well as the video editing software Studio 9
and is almost head to head with the Pentium 4
Processor 560 or the Extreme Edition at 3.4 GHz. "

Are you going to be using your machine primarily for Video Encoding? Didn't
think so. That's the only application in which the
Pentium leads by a wide
margin.

"When it comes to games and multimedia, the FX-55 gains even more lead over the
P4 processor family, beating the Extreme Edition in
3DMark, Doom 3, Far Cry, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Wolfenstein ET. These are
also precisely the applications for which the P4 EE
and the Athlon FX are designed. Only some synthetic benchmarks, 3DStudio Max
and encoding applications like Windows Media Encoder 9
are still dominated by Intel's processors."

This is the latest benchmark comparison I could find.

Again: There's NO reason to purchase an Intel Pentium processor unless you have
some sort of Business commitment to support packages
and specific vendors etc.

Are there any 64 bit compatibility issues? Also, If all my apps are 32 bit
including my OS, am I going to get any benefit?

I didn't think I would get muc of a boost with the 64 bit when playing HalfLife
2. Did I say playing? I ment when I'm working.
