IIRC since the first Archeologists formulated the theory maybe 5, nor more then 10 years. Seems the main habitation site that this is based on was being worked on sometime in the 90's up to now. I would say, defiantly less then 2 years since a few other scientists in the field are giving grudging, "Well, maybe ... let us see what other evidence can be found..." support to theory.
