One of the scariest true stories I ever heard or saw happened out in
the New Mexico wilderness. The victim's husband says he had a local
survivalist hunt her like she was a rabbit. They never did find her
body.

In fact that's what makes Tony Hillerman's novels, imho... all this
stuff takes place fifty miles from the nearest other person.

I actually think it can be worse in a city where depravity is usually
ignored. But not always, which is the point I am making. When it
happens way out yonder there is often no help in sight.
