Just to be fair, MS has recently made vague statements on this front.  In
short they've announced that IE will be updated outside of the OS (reversing
at least partially their original announcement) but not what or when.

Specifically they've intimated that they would build extensions to IE using
the "Add-in" interfaces (which could mean they're considering a strategy
similar to IE 7).

Personally I wish they'd just reconvene the IE team and do it up right.
