I *am* advocating the same for farmers in Europe. And for all those other trade 
barriers that are in place. There are quota for bananas because some countries 
are trying to help their former colonies at the expense of for instance Central 
America (not favoured nations) and my wallet (bananas are more expensive). If 
rice is processed in for instance Curacao it gets lower tariffs because Curacao 
is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Etc. etc.

Farming subsidies are the same all over the EU (except for the new member 
states that have a transition period) so it isn't just those countries. And 
those subsidies currently cost about 70% of the total budget of the EU.
