Also, on the topic of Backwards compatibility, any of the next generation
systems could create quite the coup by marketing an emulator for the last
generation competing system.  There are already amateur emulators for both
system floating around that might be adapted to the cause.

What is, for example, XBox Next had the capability to play PS2 games?  Or
vice versa (although the hard drive could be an issue)?  Of course there
would be controller issues as well, but that's easily handled with an
adapter.

I doubt it would ever happen, but it seems to me that a PS3 that could play
PS2, PS1 and XBox games or an XBox Next that could play PS2 and XBox games
would be quite attractive...

Both systems would have the raw horsepower to pull this off, I think.
