Well, I am thinking cherry that has been shaped. Did you mean 6-8" diameter and 8 feet tall, or 6-8" circumference?
If you meant 6-8" diameter, with a 5' canopy, I'd even bet on something grafted onto the trunk. Are there no branches sticking up at the top of the trunk, but everything pointing straight out right at the top?
