Ray- Re: differences, I know there are quite a few, but there are folks on the list who are far better informed than I - I'm a "semi-participatory" Reform Jew who got re-connected with the organized faith as an adult after a "deprived childhood" (actually some would say "depraved" - whatever). I go to synagogue on Sabbath when the mood strikes me, and celebrate major holidays, but I am neither very traditional nor really observant nor highly knowledgeable.
Maybe some of the folks on the list who do really know can answer you. -Ben -----Original Message----- From: Raymond Camden [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, November 09, 2001 8:54 AM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: JUDITH!! > > There are 2 major Jewish cultures - Ashkenazi, Eastern European, and > Sephardic, North African / Middle Eastern. > There is a particular Hebrew letter which is pronounced as an > "s" sound by > the former and a "t" sound by the latter. > > Gets funny at synagogue when people are chanting Hebrew in > unison and some > pronounce it one way and others another. > Are there any other differences? Ie, religious beliefs? It sounds like they go to the synagogue, so I guess not, but I'm curious. -RC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
