Using your parameters (and age 23)and assuming no other costs.  One 
would need to make $34,700 pre-tax to save $100K by the time one is 30. 
  Those assumptions look low too.  so conservatively you need to make 
about $65K in a city where rent is 1K a month.  This is not completely 
out of the realm of possibility.  But I don't think that would be the 
average.

I kinda guess-timated 40% tax and other costs.
