What? I take it then that you are close to the Senator? On what experience do you base this opinion? Just for the sake of argument, suppose his private opinion was that he opposed Powell for SecState, would that matter provided he voted to approve? If so, why? I'm certainly not trying to defend his former membership in the KKK, but come on... > He's an old racist, an embarrasment to the Senate, just like this jackass > Thomas on the Republican side in the House, who wants to discuss race and > gender factors in Social Security benefits equations. But hey, that's > democracy. Byrd may very well be "an old racist" and i don't particulary like his stance on several issues, despite his being a Dem., but I don't know the man well enough to say that he's playing a race card in holding up Rice's nomination. FWIW, I have heard many arguments that oppose Rice's nomination from people I know to be neither racist nor sexist that have been simply flattened with either the racism or the anti-woman card. and none of the arguments had anything at all to do with either. Race and gender are being used to effectively stifle debate and dissent. -- will "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; and that would just be unacceptable." - Carrie Fisher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:144184 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
