Have you ever been passed over for employment or promotion to a less qualified candidate because of AA? It has happened to me in the private sector. I was working the job of a manager and was in line for promotion to the position when the company hired an inexperience African America woman to fill 2 AA slots in my department. I was then expected to train the new manager. She was good to work with and a quick study, but I was still upset I was passed over and then had to train the new manager.
I felt I was discriminated against because I was blatantly told I did not get the promotion because I was a white man. While it took me awhile to buy into AA, I do support it. Everyday I see people in society continue to treat people of color and minorities "differently". The small gestures, the comments, the stares.. It all adds up. Take the quote Gel posted... Just because you preach equality does not mean equality exists. The playing field is not level nor will it be until the older generation dies off... You know, the generation who stares at the biracial highschool couple?.. The parents who drive their kids to school because the bus driver is black? That is the list that goes on and on. How does a minority get a fair shot when the field itself is not fair. AA does nothing more than level off a field controlled by the arrogant white man, myself included. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:144348 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
