Erika's solution is really the only way to be sure - no matter how badly the box is hosed this external hardware solution will ALWAYS work. I agree that it's well worth the (relatively minor) cost for mission-critical servers. However many remote control software solutions let you reboot the box as well - terminal services can be run from a web page as can Dameware or VNC and (I believe) PC Anywhere. The issue with these is that they give you control over the box (a remote desktop interface - full control to shut down the box, control it, etc. What exactly are you trying to do?
