That was a big concern for me as well. I do much the same daily tasks
as you do and can go all day just fine. The backlight is so bright
that I can keep it turned down to the lowest setting and it's brighter
than my Jornada was at the highest setting.

Wireless and video do suck the battery pretty quickly though. I was
watching video last night for about an hour and went from 76% to 40%
battery. With wireless I can turn it on and surf for 10-15 minutes at
a cafe or something without much problem, but I don't think I'd want
to try and have it on for long stretches.

One of the killer features is the button lock. It's a switch on the
side that can lock the buttons and screen from turning the unit on
accidentally. A coworker has a different PocketPC and hers keeps
running the battery down when it inadvertantly turns on in her purse.

Keep in mind too that battery life, while important, is less drop dead
critical than it was on the older ipaqs simply because there is a
backup battery that prevents data loss if the main battery runs down.
The Jornada introduced this and I can't believe how long it took
merging with HP for Compaq to implement it too.

Now I don't think the x50v is perfect. The HP, while ugly IMO, is
smaller AND does have a longer battery life. I've compared the screen
of the Dell and HP and I like the Dell better, but that's just my
opinion. It lacks the integrated flip cover of the Jornada. I
purchased a Sena case which is very slim for a case, but it still adds
more bulk than I'm used to. There are little quirks like sometimes
using a CF card and wireless can confuse the device slightly. It's
rare and a soft-reset clears it up, but it's annoying that it happens
at all. But every device has quirks.
