We had the same issue last year. It was a disaster created by an inept
sys admin. "I thought there was a backup tape." ;-)

We sent it to Ontrack (http://www.ontrack.com/) and they were able to
recover about 25% of our data.

Our main problem was the drive went through three different RAID array
changes that totally messed up the data. It took about a week for this
company to retrieve what they could, but the restore was not good, but
not their fault.

They said if we had not laid down the first, second or third array, we
would have been in good shape, even after a format.

It would be worth calling them, but they can be a bit pricey. I think
we paid around $20k, but we a lot of data, six drives and asked for
priority service.

I think they have a freeware? tool on their site that you can use
yourself.

Good luck!

Subject: recover data from formated drive?

If a drive was formated and then had a couple files put on it, could it
still have pre-formated files recovered?
