Little bitty post-war houses are around that price here. They are mostly very cute but what is happening is that evil developers are buying them up, knocking them down and building 1 or more hideous mcmansions that are about 2 feet apart on the lots. It is too horrible to see.
Around here, if you want affordable housing you have a least an hour's commute. My wife told me today that she over heard two ladies talking at the store saying "I mean the house is only 300k, but the taxes are astronomical!" 300k!!!! You can't get a decent 3bd 2 bath in a nice neighborhood for less than 225K here. We were better off in Hawai'i. That's why we're starting to look elsewhere.
