You should look into a 15 year mortgage. It's not much more per month. Plus, the interest is tax deductible. My folks have been in their house 28 years and are going to remortgage again. Once the house is paid off, then you pay more taxes rather then get the break. It's a debt worth having. At 120K I'll bet your monthly payment would be about $800 a month.
I'm actually reading home buying for dummies and its a pretty good book (I dig dummy books). It's worth looking into.
