I think you can also acredit part of this to the low propduction value
of thier Reality TV shows. Prior to reality TV low budget shows really
sucked, not that reality tv doesn't to me. Now they get good ratings ,
enough to pay for the reality TV show plus plenty extra. The extra
cash they get from reality TV gives them breathing room to throw at
other shows.
