Nice try, but it's a tax cut. The "subsidy to the wealthy" line is just the
Democratic pollsters' response to Luntz's "death tax" line.

Personally, I'm all for revoking the estate tax. In fact, I'm for almost
anything that means taking the money out of the hands of government and keeping
it in the hands of private citizens. And that's really what this debate is all
about. The very rich have the ability to do all sorts of interesting things to
shield their money from taxes already. Believe me, Paris Hilton isn't going to
pay 50% on her inheritance. So it isn't a sop to the very rich. It is, however,
a fundamentally anti-government stance.

History has demonstrated that, even without a tax on inheritance, families tend
to fritter away their wealth within three generations. Look at Paris and Nicky
Hilton. I heard Nicky Hilton on TV saying how annoyed she was that people said
she was spending her money frivolously. She said, "It's my money, I'll spend it
however I like." you go girl! I am all for her pissing her money away, because
all that money goes back into the economy and fuels all sorts of interesting
forms of expression that only rich people can fund.
